Terms of Use

These terms apply to your use of Marin County Residents Directory. Accessing or using the reference means you accept them; if you disagree, do not use the service.

1. The Nature of This Reference

Marin County Residents Directory is privately operated. It describes and links to public rolls, record indexes, and historical directory collections concerning people who live or lived in Marin County, California. It hosts no government records and is not affiliated with the Marin County Assessor-Recorder-County Clerk, another public office, a court, a library, or any records custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use the service only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or information reached through it, to:

  • Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or hurt another person
  • Find someone shielded by a restraining or protective order
  • Carry out identity theft or fraud
  • Make an FCRA-regulated decision about credit, employment, tenant screening, or insurance
  • Scrape, reproduce, or republish site content at scale
  • Disrupt the service or bypass its security

Conduct involving stalking or civil harassment may also implicate California Penal Code §646.9 or Code of Civil Procedure §527.6.

3. Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Marin County Residents Directory is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. §1681 et seq. Neither its material nor anything returned by a linked search provider is a consumer report. Do not use either for credit, employment, housing, insurance, tenant screening, or another FCRA-covered purpose.

4. External Links and Services

Government portals, library collections, archives, and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, set their own terms and policies. We do not control or accept responsibility for their content, availability, pricing, or data practices.

5. No Warranties

The service is supplied "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. No promise is made that material is accurate, complete, or current, or that a linked portal will function or return a correct result.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from this service or a linked resource, including decisions based on records reached through it.

7. Your Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold the operators harmless from a claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that arises from your misuse of the service or breach of these terms.

8. Copyright and Site Materials

The original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Linking to a page and quoting brief, attributed excerpts is welcome; republishing complete pages or copying the material systematically is not.

9. Changes to These Terms

An updated version may be posted on this page. Continued use after the change is published means that version is accepted.

10. Access Restrictions

Access may be blocked or limited for a user who violates these terms or abuses the service, at the operators' discretion and without notice.

11. California Law

California law governs these terms without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The California Public Records Act, Government Code §§7920.000-7931.000, governs requests to public agencies, not records held by this private reference. California's Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the CPRA, Civil Code §§1798.100 et seq., and Safe at Home, Government Code §§6205-6216, may apply where their own requirements are met.

12. Severability

If a provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
